Modern café serves very basic and authentic Maharashtrian /Marathi food. Thalipeeth, Pohe, Misal at Modern Cafe are undoubtedly the best breakfast meals around college road. Food here is very basic, less spicy and suitable for almost every palate.

They’ve very simple decor and most of their attention seems on food more than the ambiance. One strange thing about this place is  unlike sauce dispensers they have curd/dahi dispensers on table a quite creative move by them. Those dispensers comes quite handy especially when you’re eating Misal Pav and they don’t charge for it by the way.

Modern café mainly serves Marathi veg thalis and à la carte Marathi menu for lunch and dinner. Lunch thali comes loaded with Masala bhat, poli, and daily rotating veggies with taak(chaas). You can even pick mini meals like Masala Bhat and Chaas or ALU paratha. And after a heavy meal guess what can you have for dessert? Ukdiche Modak, Perfectly steamed and that too with a glaze of pure ghee! They usually have the Modak on the menu often.

Their à la carte menu consist of vegetables including shev bhaji, pithal, alu chi bhaji and couple of rotating  home style Marathi  vegetables. Minimal spices and home style cooking are USP at Modern Cafe. Paired one of these vegetables with chapati or paratha and top it up with a glass of chass and guess what your lunch is sorted. 

The place is hygienic and Service is decent, Costs are pocket friendly too. Lunch thali cost between 80-90 Rs. And Modak for 15 bucks. A not to missed place.
