Verdict – *1/2

There are some movies which are hyped about their content and promise to give food for thought. Then there is Prabhu Deva , Anees Bazmee style movies. They promise you nothing. They don’t expect you to expect any enriching content from their movies. Pure no brainer and made for Stall audience.
Ramaiya Vastavaiya is nothing different from the second category mentioned above. Being a Prabhu Deva movie, this movie is remake of Telugu film directed by him. Only different factor from his previous two Hindi ventures is star power. This film is specifically made to launch protagonist Girish Kumar (s/o producer Kumar Taurani). So, it is obvious that it shows each and every possible formula factor that works for 100 crore film.
Story of Ramaiya Vastavaiya is nothing new. Similar to what you saw in “Maine Pyar Kiya” and
“Pyar Kiya Toh Darna Kya?” Ram (Girish Kumar) an NRI from Australia, comes India for his cousin’s wedding. That cousin happens to be the best friend of leading lady Sona (Shruti Hassan). Obviously, Sona must come to early wedding preparations. Few events happen and both leads have fallen for each other. But Rich mother (Poonam Dhillon) of Ram can’t take the fact that her son is fallen for a village girl and insults Sona heavily.
Then there comes usual Rich-Poor clash in Indian films. Over caring brother of Sona, Raghuvir (Sonu Sood) can’t take this and leaves the wedding with her furiously. Ram pursues them to village and asks Raghuvir to let him prove his love for Sona. Raghuvir places a bet in front Ram and if won, he is allowed to marry Sona. Rest of the films is predictable.
Plot is full with occasional jokes, wits and regular Sothern flavoured scenes. You can have a romantic scene, a comic scene, a fight and everything possible in a movie continuously. But there is nothing new in it. Movie is barely 130 minutes long and fast paced. It is assured that even if plot is as old as hell, you are not given time to yawn.
Nothing to say in the acting department as no one needs to “ACT” in these kinds of films. But
some honourable mentions must be given to Randheer Kapoor, Satish Shah, Nassar, Paresh Ganatra, Govind Namdeo and Vinod Khanna.
Music of the film is melodious. Jeene Laga Hoon is on top of the charts. But it is used so frequently throughout the movie that you get irritated by it. Rest of the songs and background score are average.
All together, it has been tried to make a grand entry of Girish Kumar but will fail to do so due to lack of star power and almost no new thing in story. But still, it is a feel good film and family entertainer.
Just expect nothing and don’t get disappointed.
