Panchavati or Ramkunda

River Godavari flows through Nashik and its Northern part is known as Panchavati. Lord Shri Ram and Sita along with Laxman stayed at Panchavati during exile. The Ramkund in the river Godavari, attracts innumerable pilgrims. Here devotees take a holy dip. There are five Banyan (Vad) trees that is the reason it is called Panchavati. Nearby is sita Gumpha where Goddess Sita stayed for some time at the time of Vanvas.

The godavari river is one of the holiest places for Hindus all over the world. The pious river bed has 24 tirthas(kund). .It is the spot from where the river Godavari turns to right at an angle of 90 degrees. it is believed that Lord Ram and Sita used to bathe in this Kund during their Vanvaas .The ashes of various personalities has been immersed at Ramkund. Memorial ( Smarak) .Its everyone’s wish that his or her ashes or asthis must be immersed in Ramkunda so that will be pious .

The bank of the River Godavari have maintained ghats and many numerous temples.It gives an incredible look, when the waters is lit with oil lamps and flowers at night.

Someshwar

Someshwar temple is one of oldest temples of Lord Mahadeva  which lies on the banks of Godavari. The temple is surrounded by greeneries, clam climate and loving nature. the place, where the temple is placed tourists is a beautiful nature spot with a pleasant climate. The river bed is suitable for for boating and swimming.  Here you will find a Hanuman temple. . Tourists can take pleasure of swimming and boating in the river.Someshwar has been a favourite location for many a shootings. Climate On the way to Someshwar, there is a village  Anandwalli. The name is given by the peshwa Raghobadada and Anandibai stayed there for long time. They had built the temple of  Lord Shri Ganesha in the same village which is very famous  in the whole Nashik as Navasha Ganapati.Everyone must visit these two places.

What to see: Someshwar a very famous temple of Lord Shiva which has been built about 300 years ago. Scenery near Someshwar temple is quite nice. There is also a small waterfall around that place. You can also enjoy Boating.

Sita Gufaa

Sita Gufaa is a place where Sita was kidnapped by  Ravana. It is situated at the west door of the Kalaram Temple. It is near the five Banyan trees i.e Panchavati It  has beautiful  idols of Lord Rama, Sita and Lakshmna. The wife of Lord Ram, Sita stayed in this cave during the days of her vanvaas.one more importance of this temple is the Shivlinga, the same idol of Shiva worshipped by goddess sita.If anyone has to enter in the Sita Gumpha it has a very narrow door. Just opposite the Gumpha There is a Place Where Lord Ram Had Killed The Demon Marich

The Sita Gumpha is at a distance of 2 km from Central Bus Stand of Nashik. It is situated at the western side door of the famous Kalaram Temple.

What to see: Sita Gunfa is an old cave. It has derived its name from wife of Lord Rama. It is believed that during Lord Rama’s stay in Panchvati, they used to live there.

Kapaleshwar temple

Kapaleshwar Temple is one amongst the old temples in Nashik, located besides the  holy river Godavari at Ramkunda. The clam atmosphere and the unparalleled  tranquility make the devotees crowd in the temple.The Kapaleshwar Mahadev temple is situated at a distance of 1km from Central Bus Stand of Nashik. This temple is believed to be some 600 years old.The Kapaleshwar Mahadev temple can be reached by climbing 50 steps. There is a lovely Shivaling in the temple. The most striking aspect regarding this temple is there is no idol of Nandi in front of Lord Mahadev. The Shravani Somvar (Monday) and Shivratri are the days when pilgrims gather in large numbers in the Kapaleshwar Mahadev temple. Devotees have to wait in long queues for their turn.

What to see- Kapaleshwar Temple is one of the most famous temple of Lord Shiva. It has got huge history behind it. It is flooded with people any time of year.

Naroshankar temple

The Naroshankar Temple is situated in Panchavati about 2km from Central Bus Stand of Nashik. It is on the banks of the sacred river Godavari. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is constructed by Naroshankar Rajebahaddur in 1747 and hence the name. Naroshankara Templeconstructed in the 18th century.

The Naroshankar Temple is a great example of the architectural style called “Maya” dating back to the 18th century. The designs on the exterior of the temple are just awesome with one layer is of decorative lacework and the next of peacocks holding bead garlands. In its four corners are umbrellas – called “Meghadambari” or “Barasati”. One of them was washed away in Godavari floods and only three are existing presently. In four directions are statues of the saints in Padmasana. The elegant works illustrates the tradition of Hinduism not only includes human beings, but the whole universe.

The front of the Naroshankar Temple there is a huge bell called as “Naroshankar  Bell”. It is made of bronze, with six feet diameter and the year 1921 engraved on it. It is believed that the jingle of the “Naroshankar Bell” can be heard upto 5 miles. The local people also say that in future whenever the water of the Godavari shall touch this bell the entire city may be in water.

What to see-Naroshankar Temple is a temple of Lord Shiva. It was built by Knight of Peshwas named Naroshankar Rajebahaddar. Famous Naroshankar Bell in Nashik is also named after same knight. It is considered as winning memento of battle between Portuguese and Marathas.

 

The Sundar Narayan temple

The Laxmi Narayan Temple is located near the Swaminarayan bridge of Nashik. The temple is very near to Tapovan,as per Ramayana the history says that  the place where Laxman had cut the nose of Shurpanakha, who was the sister of Ravana.

The Laxmi Narayan Temple is a very attractive, calm and pleasant temple. The temple has the idols of Lord Narayan and Goddess Lakshmi ,who is the Goddess of wealth. The temple is very clean, calm and gives peace of mind. The every visitor or tourist of nashik who visits the tapovan always stops at Lakshmi narayan temple to have darshan of  this lovely temple.
